Nanoleaf wants to take over your ceiling lighting with 'Skylight'

Nanoleaf has just announced its next lighting product here at CES with ‘Skylight,’ a series of ceiling light panels designed to be the replacement for the boring old ceiling lights you probably currently use. Skylight panels, like other Nanoleaf panels such as the Shapes, are modular. This means they can be connected together to create one seamless lighting setup overhead.

Just like with Nanoleaf shapes each square light panel in the Skylight kit has diffused lighting that looks and feels softer. Nanoleaf says the design is intended to provide “an open-air “sky” experience that will transform the feeling of your living spaces.” This really couldn’t be more true with Nanoleaf Skylight’s scheduling feature. It works exactly like it does with the Nanoleaf shapes. You set a schedule and the lights will power on at your designated time. But they don’t just turn on full rip. They gradually get brighter to simulate the sunrise like you’re waking up to sunlight peaking in through the window or, you know, a skylight.

That open-air sky experience makes even more sense if you set the Skylight panels to a specific scene called “Morning Sky” within the Nanoleaf app. Which mixes a blend of whites and very light blues to mimic the sky on a sunny day.

Whether you’re looking to get soft white lighting or jazz up your room with colors, Nanoleaf Skylight panels can get the job done. They support more than 16 million RGB colors. Giving you endless options for lighting your space. Skylight is also compatible with Nanoleaf Scenes and Magic Scenes. Scenes are generally pre-configured color combinations that are created by Nanoleaf and the community. While Magic Scenes are something you create all on your own.

With Magic Scenes, you simply type in some word prompts and the Nanoleaf app will create a scene for you based on the word(s). Skylight can also sync up with your music. It’s still unclear if Skylight is compatible with Nanoleaf’s 4D kit. But we’re hoping it is because it would make for the ultimate experience with entertainment.

Cover your entire ceiling in Skylight panels

The best part about Skylight or any Nanoleaf product is the modularity. You can string together tons of these panels and create an entirely different feel for your space. Nanoleaf says all you have to do is hardwire one square panel. Then you can connect up to 100 additional panels by linking them to the first one. They basically chain together. In doing so, you can essentially cover most of your ceiling with these panels. If that’s something you want to do.

Skylight also supports voice control using Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. You can use commands to do everything from turning the lights on or off to adjusting the dimming. Nanoleaf Skylight is available for pre-order starting today and Nanoleaf offers ‘Smarter Kits’ that start with a 3-pack. These will retail for $249.99. But you can also save 10% if you use the code “FAST10” and pre-order by January 31. That being said, a 3-pack of panels isn’t going to cover much space.

So if you want something more immersive, Starter Kits can include all up to 12 panels. This is a bit more expensive, however. Here’s the great thing. The modular design of Nanoleaf panels allows you to start small and you can expand later on with expansion packs that include 1 panel for $69.99 each. So there’s some wiggle room in how you go about the setup.
